Privacy
You can read everything here without giving us anything. Here's what happens with your information.
What we collect
You don't need to give us anything to read Hale Handbook. We only collect personal information if you choose to sign up for email. Like nearly every website, our hosting provider's servers also handle technical details such as your IP address in order to deliver pages to you.
Email signup
If you sign up, your email address and the date are stored with our website host, Cloudflare, and we use your address only to send you Hale Handbook emails. We don't record which guide you were reading when you signed up.
We won't sell your address or give it to advertisers. To send email we may use a delivery service, which would handle your address only on our behalf. Every email will include an unsubscribe link. To have your address deleted, contact [email protected].
Analytics
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits and see which guides people read. It doesn't use cookies. Cloudflare says it doesn't fingerprint visitors, doesn't log the search terms in page addresses, and discards IP addresses rather than storing them. It records things like the page you opened, the site you came from and how quickly the page loaded.
We leave it off our search page and our eating disorder support guide. It also won't load if your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal.
Calculators
The numbers you type into the calculators are processed in your own browser. They aren't sent to us or stored anywhere.
Reading progress
To put check marks next to guides you've opened, your browser stores a short list of those guides on your own device, using a feature called local storage. It never reaches us. Clearing your browser data removes it.
Fonts
This site loads its fonts from Google Fonts, so your browser connects to Google to fetch them, and Google can see your IP address when that happens. See Google's privacy policy.
Links to other sites
Our guides link to outside sources like government health agencies and medical journals. Those sites have their own privacy practices.
Advertising and changes
We don't run ads right now. If that changes, or if anything else on this page changes, we'll update this page first.
